For Gautier Capuçon, it was love at first sight. As soon as he had his first cello in his hands, he knew: He had found his instrument. "I love the posture of sitting and embracing the cello", he reveals in an interview. And this deeply personal connection between artist and instrument can still be felt today when the Frenchman, now an international star, works his musical magic on stage. One of the core works of his repertoire is the Cello Concerto by Antonín Dvořák, whose highly emotional tonal language Capuçon illuminates in Hamburg in powerful musical colors. In the second half of the concert, the journey then moves from the Czech Republic to Germany: with Richard Strauss's sensual Don Juan and the mischievous Till Eulenspiegel, shooting star Petr Popeka and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra bring two of the most eccentric heroes in music history sonically to life.
